Notes on suitable hardware for the System Status and Camera Display systems.

Currently we have Camera Displays in the Control Room and ELab.

The plan is to expand this system to include Charlies System Status Displays as well as the Camera Displays.

We want to have the following systems:

  1. ELab - System Status and Camera Monitor (2 TV’s, 1 computer)

  2. Mezz Bulpen - System Status and Camera Monitor (2 TV’s, 1 computer)

  3. Control Room - System Status and Camera Monitor (2 TV’s, 1 computer)

  4. Utility Level, in front of the Stairs to Telescope Level System Status (1 TV 1 Computer)

Currently we have 18 cameras installed, with 2 more planned in the near future.

Wisenet Wave minimum client requirements for a 32 camera system are:

https://support.hanwhavisionamerica.com/hc/en-us/articles/115013449908-WAVE-Minimum-Server-Client-Hardware-Specifications

  • Supported OS (Windows, Linux, macOS)

  • 4GB RAM

  • Intel Quad Core Celeron Processor

  • 1Gb NIC

We’ll go a little above that as we’ll be running the Wisenet Wave software as well as an Ignition Client on each module, on two 4k TV’s.

Keith has been happy with the Intel Nuc line of small form factor computers, and the latest ones support up to 4 extended 4k displays, although they did need to use an external 10 GB ethernet adapter for their network bandwidth. I believe we can use a similar Intel i5 Nuc, perhaps with less memory and storage.

Here’s a link to the model Keith is using to run the control room consoles:

They went with 32 GB Ram and 1 TB SSD which runs $624 from e-itx.com; I think we should get the same system to simplify the spares situation.

Have had good luck with LG 55” 4K TV’s from Costco in the E-Lab, and a 65” LG in the Control Room.

Costco will deliver as well.
