Install Starter

V5.4.2.1 is the most recent that we use. Almost any version will work.

Connect your computer to a network where the drive is located

Enclosure drives are on the local subnet for all EMCS IO: 10.2.9.xxx.
You can connect to this subnet in the E-lab, or any enclosure cabinet or the “Integrated ethernet port on each control unit”.

Mount and Coude drives are not installed on an ethernet subnet. They talk ProfiNet to the Beckhoff controllers.
To connect to the Mount and Coude drives you must use the “Integrated ethernet port on each control unit”. Therefore you must be local to the drive wit the cabinet door open.

Integrated ethernet port on each control unit

The control unit has an integrated ethernet port.
The factory-set IP address of the Ethernet interface of the Control Unit is 169.254.11.22,
The subnet mask is 255.255.0.0.
Do not change this IP address. Everyone expects the commissioning port to be at this IP address.

Configure your ethernet adapter to correspond to the drive

On your computer Windows click "Settings > Control Panel > Network connections > Change adapter options > Properties").

Double-click …TCP/IPv4

If connecting to the integrated ethernet port on the drive

Set the IP address of PG/PC ethernet adapter to 169.254.11.1.
Set the subnet mask to 255.255.0.0.

If connecting to the 10.2.9.xxx subnet

Set the IP address of PG/PC ethernet adapter to 10.2.9. (an unused address 200 - 250)
Set the subnet mask to 255.255.255.0.

Any Ethernet interface of the PG/PC can be used

Click "OK".

Open Starter.

Note: in Siemens-speak: PG = PC = your programming computer.

On the toolbar, click Options > Set PG / PC Interface.

In the “Interface Parameter Assignment Used” box select an option that corresponds to your ethernet adapter. Any Interface should work.

On the Project Navigator, each drive assembly will have a row called “Commissioning Interface”

Click “Commissioning Interface”

Online access point should indicate “DEVICE”. If it does not, the click the “Change…” button to the right and select “DEVICE”

Repeat for each control unit in the project.
