DKIST General

Operational Status

  • DKIST was down 7/11 - 7/23 due to a brush fire near the Crater Road and the resulting power outage. HECO has restored power to the summit and DKIST operations are proceeding according to our planned schedule.

  • DKIST is in Engineering Period 2024c 7/24 - 8/2.

  • Dr. Paolo Turri a new DKIST scientist working on adaptive optics will be starting on July 29th.

Accomplishments

  • wed/ thu 7/17&18 work from office due to road closure & power outage.

  • Mon 7/23 potential power up & tech crew + small eng crew up to summit. Power up delayed by MECO by 24 hrs due to additional repair work. Finished out day on site completing tasks that could be undertaken with generator backed systems. Road and Park still closed.

  • Tue 7/24 normal start time on site, power restored mid morning. Inspections carried out and CES + thermal housekeeping systems restored. Testing of TAC scripts commenced. Mount prep'd for motion. Partial start of engineering activites. Road and Park still closed.

  • Wed 7/25 restart of HLS systems & full on start to the engineering period. Road and Park open from midday.

InstOps team

Accomplishments

  • Began recovery and startup of summit instrument and software system.

  • DL-NIRSP: floated and refocused the instrument, installed the upgraded camera, installed the modulator shoulder interface, developed concepts for the new IFU mount.

  • Cryo-NIRSP: opened context imager, found small leak in entrance window gasket and adjusted gasket for now, investigated controller failure, worked with HLS and TechOps on remote control of compressors. began cooling instrument.

  • GOS: replaced failing Delta Tau controller, inspected cover limit switches

  • HLS: installed Pono 8 on all summit software systems

Data Center team

Accomplishments

  • Created a reprocessing development plan and defined all the coding/testing tasks that must be accomplished prior to reprocessing any data

  • Completed code to create L2 FITS files automatically in response to user actions in the L2 User interface

  • Made DL-NIRSP pipeline code output 3-dimensional output files
