The following set of instructions is a basic overview for a novice user on how to get started when proposing for time on the DKIST.

Introduction

Scientists intending to propose for DKIST observing time should visit the DKIST home page for information on the telescope and instruments: https://nso.edu/telescopes/dki-solar-telescope/. It is vital to be able to understand whether the DKIST is well suited for the scientific goals of the user’s proposal. Please see the DKIST Science Overview to get started, followed by the DKIST Instruments.

Instructions

  1. Start by reading the DKIST Proposing webpage.

  2. From there, on the right hand column, use the links to:

    1. Download and read the Current Proposal Call [PDF].

    2. Follow the link to the Proposal Call Announcement and be sure to abide by the deadline dates for the Call.

    3. Follow the links regarding the DKIST Instruments to better understand what they can do for the science you're interested in.

    4. Follow the links for the FIDO and IPC documentation and tools download. Each tool manual has installation instructions.

    5. Sign up for a Globus account if you don’t already have one.

    6. Log into the Proposal Architect (PA) using your Globus credentials.

      1. Be sure to fill in your PA user profile if it’s your first time logging in.

    7. Use the PA Manual and Proposal Architect Walk-through Instructions to create a proposal.

  3. Every web page related to DKIST Proposing has a left hand column where you can find additional documentation and links to help guide the proposing process.

  4. The DKIST Help Desk Knowledgebase has links to a FAQs and other relevant articles, such as this one, to assist with common issues.

  5. If you run into problems or have questions to which you have not been able to find answers, you can create a DKIST Help Desk account and submit a ticket here.
