Globus is a non-profit service, based at the University of Chicago, that provides secure, reliable research data management.  The NSF's DKIST project uses Globus for identifying you and transporting your data.

In order to log into the DKIST Proposal Architect tool, you must have a Globus account/identity.  To create an account, please follow the instructions below.  There are some sample screen images at the bottom of this document.

Instructions

Creating your account

  1. In the Proposal Architect, click "Log in with Globus" (top left).  Or go to the Globus login page.

  2. There are three ways to create your Globus account:
    1. Through your organization
      1. In the "Use your existing organizational login" field, put the name of the organization you are affiliated with.
      2. If your organization registered with Globus, it will appear in the search field, and you can click "Continue" to log in through your organization's ID system.  (If your organization is not on the list, you will need to use one of the other methods below.)
      3. Once you successfully log in, go to step 3.
    2. Through Google or ORCiD (if you have a Google or ORCiD account)
      1. Click the Google or ORCiD button
      2. Follow the Google or ORCiD login steps
      3. Once you successfully log in, go to step 3.
    3. Directly creating a Globus ID
      1. Click the "Globus ID to sign in" link.  You will be routed to a Globus ID login page.
      2. Click the "Need a Globus ID? Sign up" link.
      3. You will be taken to the "Create a Globus ID" page.  Fill in the form, and click the "Create ID" button.
      4. Go to step 3.
  3. Globus may require verification of your account on it's first use.
    1. Globus should send you an email with a verification code.  Copy and paste the long verification code into the only field on the verification page, and click Verify.
    2. You should be sent another email from Globus showing the name of your account.
  4. On your first use of Globus, the Globus Web Application may ask for permission to transfer files, view identities, etc.  Select Allow.

Logging in to the Proposal Architect

  1. In the Proposal Architect, click "Log in with Globus".
  2. If you just created an account or it's been more than a day since you last logged in, you will be routed once again to the Globus login page.
    1. Select the login method that matches your created account, and log in.
    2. On your first use of the Proposal Architect, Globus will ask if you wish to share some information.  Select Allow.
    3. IMPORTANT: Also on your first use, you will be routed to a profile page in the Proposal Architect.  Please fill it out with appropriate information, including your primary work email address.  We will use this email for any communication with the PI, Alternate Contact and CO-Is.
  3. Once logged in, you should be automatically routed to the Proposal Architect.

Notes

  • You can add multiple accounts to one Globus account, i.e. a university login and a Google login.
  • By logging in to the DKIST Proposal system, your name and affiliation (but not email) will be visible to all other users of the Proposal Architect system.
  • You will only be able to read proposals for which your Globus account is a member, that is, you are a Principal Investigator, Alternate Contact, or Co-Investigator
  • You will only be able to modify proposals for which your Globus account is the Principal Investigator.
