TEOA Safety System

TEOACS (TEOA control system) and GIS monitor for hazardous conditions.

TEOACS is not a safety-rated system. On overtemperature (45°C) the TEOACS will close the safety shutter.

GIS will deploy the safety shutter on two conditions:

  • loss of coolant pressure

  • over temperature.

This immediately triggers the safety shutter to close. Temperatures and pressure alarm limits are set in hardware in the TEOA.

M1 cover will close on any of these conditions:

  • Safety Shutter is closed

  • 2.5 seconds after Safety Shutter is commanded to close

  • Safety shutter is not fully open when the light path is not blocked (aperture cover closed, sun is below the horizon, or enclosure is pointed more than 25 degrees away from the Sun.)

Assuming we are observing and things are working correctly, an over temperature or low pressure condition will

  • Close the safety Shutter. Safety shutter nominally closes in 2.0 seconds.

  • Close the M1 cover. M1 Cover nominally closes in 13.5 seconds.

  • Close the aperture when the M1 cover is closed. Aperture Cover closes in 130.5 seconds.
