DKIST General

Operational Status

• DKIST went through Shake & Bake 8/5 - 8/6 in preparation for OCP 2.8.

• Start of the first week of OCP 2.8.

Events

• DKIST staff and DKIST Ambassadors attended the Big Bear Solar Observatory (BBSO) Summer School 7/29 - 8/2 (see photo below). Several DKIST staff members presented at the Summer School.

• Visit to DKIST by the NOIRLab Head of Engineering Services and Head of Systems Engineering - 8/13

• Visit to DKIST by a Rubin AIV manager - 8/12

Personnel

• The seven Akamai interns working at DKIST finished up their internships this week. See the NSO blog post here.

SciOps and OpsTools team

Accomplishments

• The SciOps team has contacted the Cycle 3 Time Allocation Committee (TAC) Chair to coordinate dates for the TAC meeting.

• OCP 2.8 started 8/7 with flare patrol experiments being prioritized. Below is a screenshot of one of the pointing targets for the flare patrol.

• Cycle 3 PI’s will be contacted next week with an update about the progress made regarding the proposal review process. 

• The SciOps team continues to work on SciOps Jira tickets and preparing for Cycle 3 Experiment Generation.

TechOps team

Accomplishments

• The TechOps and InstOps teams worked together to perform the DKIST Shake & Bake 8/5 - 8/6 in preparation for handover to Science Operations.

• Access Control Panels installed ready for upcoming door control install.

• Enclosure testing complete with migration of next phase of elev code.

• Visit with SALT Engineers reviewing discussing options for vent gates.

• ME & MTechs completed 2 days of ASME training on GD&T.

• Final Prep for removal of all containers from FAA area complete - transport date 8/13 & 14.

InstOps team

Accomplishments

• Identified an issue in the WFC system on 8/7, caused by a failing custom DM controller board. Replacing it with a spare board and re-aligning the system fixed the issue.

• Identified an issue with the Cryo-NIRSP Context Imager camera controller. Issue continues to be investigated.

• Identified a problem with the new VBI red power-on script. Issue was mitigated.

• Acquired focus data for the DL-NIRSP to verify focus position. Data analysis will commence in the future.

• Prepared VISP for flare observations.

Data Center team

Accomplishments

•  Created a pre-commit hook to check workflow names against corresponding .rst documentation files.

• Corrected SP and CI spatial WCS information for Level 1 Cryo-NIRSP data

• Updated DL-NIRSP canonical data to use MISI data
