3.1 Activities

  • For the month of June, DKIST continued weeks 2-6 of OCP2.7 science observing.

  • The DKIST Directorate prepared for and presented to the NSF’s 2-year extension proposal review held June 4-6, 2024.

  •  

3.2 Financial Status

  • DKIST operations carried forward approximately $13.82M in unencumbered funds into FY 2024 from previous years.  A total of $14.00M in new funding has been obligated by NSF thus far in FY 2024.

  • Financial status of May 31, 2024

    • DKIST operational expenditures for the current month were $2.47M

    • Total YTD expenditures for DKIST operations are $17.64M.

    • Total outstanding encumbrances are $10.61M.

    • The average DKIST spending for the past 12 months (burn rate; BR) is $2.51M / month.

  • Completed the beta version of the new Experiment architect and released it for testing by the science users.

  • began working on the EA templating - gathering requirements and gaining an understanding of how the scientists buid experimenets and were the time reduction can be easily made.

  • Removed the calls to from Ops tools related to the “proposal completion” message, which had been stripped from the ICD previously

  • Completed a backend update to Docker v25.0.3

  • Provided Operational support to the science team related to proposal call cycle.

  • Prepared and delivered slides for the NSF review relating to the work that the OT software team did and was currently doing in supprot of science Ops.

7 Data Center Operations (Bob and Alisdair)

7.1 Hardware Infrastructure

  • implemented an upgrade to the Asgaard and Dev stack to the Pacific version in preparation/test for deployment to the production stack

7.2 Software Infrastructure

7.2.1 Data Center

  • Prepared for and presneed the Data Center status to the NSF review panel

  • Updated the DHS-DC Interface Control Document to address the need for packaging small files into .tar files for faster and more efficient transfer of data from the summit to the data center

  • updated the Dkist processing stack and REST APIs to Pydantic 2

  • Scaled airflow out to 256 workers

  • Installed a new metrics stack - including storage and collection of metrics relating to the infrastructure.

7.2.2 Portal/Archive/Public

  • Created a list of actionable improvements to the portal from user feedback and began implementing them

  • Made searches based on Proposal ID and Experiment case insensitive

7.3 Science Data Processing

7.3.1 Calibration Pipelines

  • VBI

    • investigated the failure of the VBI pipeline related to the receipt and attempted processing of VBI mosaic pattern with a mosaic pattern that was not N x N (5 mosaic locations). this mode of VBI operation had not been encountered previously

  • Cryo-NIRSP

    • Redesigned and implemented the Processing Preparation Worker to include Cryo-NIRSP

    • Refactored the solar gain task to preform fringe correction based on a parameter

  • DL NIRSP

    • Generated integration tests for the DL-NIRSP Pipeline in preparation for he beta version release

    • Updated the current pipeline to reflect the use of the MISI in the newest data
