How do I use the DKIST Data Center Archive Portal?

Prerequisites for downloading data

  1. The user must have an active Globus account. (see: How to create a globus account (for DKIST data))

  2. The user must have an active endpoint for Globus data transfers. (see: Globus Connect & Endpoints)

Description

The Data Portal serves two main functions for its users:

  1. Search and discovery of DKIST data holdings

  2. Selection and download of selected dataset

Instructions

  1. Log into the Data Portal at <http://dkist.data.nso.edu/>

  2. Using a combination of basic and/or advanced search parameters in the left pane of the site, filter the datasets down to those that you are interested in

  3. Following the dataset ID link for a dataset will provide more details about that dataset

  4. Selecting the movie icon

    will allow you to view a movie generated from the data in the dataset

  5. Using the checkboxes to the left of the returned data records, you can select one or more data to download

  6. Selecting the “Download Now” button will take you to the download page of the portal where:

    1. you must choose a Globus endpoint to download to

      1. If you don’t have an endpoint please go to <Globus Connect & Endpoints> to create an endpoint

    2. you can select form the endpoints owned by you - if they are local (to your machine) or

    3. you can select the down arrow to search for different endpoints that you may have access to (e.g. one at a research cluster)

    4. once you have selected an endpoint, you may select/create a directory on the endpoint where you would like to transfer the selected datasets

    5. select “Download Selected Files to → “ to begin the transfer* process.

    6. you may check on the status of the transfer at Globus transfer status page

*<note : it may take multiple days to complete the transfer, depending on file sizes and endpoint transmission speeds>
